"Excellent treatment"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

The background - I suffered a subarachnoid haemmorhage at home, and waited an hour for an ambulance, which I don't think is acceptable. I was first taken to Kingston and then transferred to the Atkinson Morley, part of St George's. For three days I was in Brodie ward and the treatment was absolutely impeccable. The nurses had everything under complete control (sorry, I have forgotten the names) and everyone was charming and told me what they were doing, having first introduced themselves. I felt completely confident that I was in good hands. I had various scans and an angiogram and a Professor was in charge of my case. No aneurysm was found and then I was moved to a side room with my own bathroom! Then I was moved to Kent Ward from where I was given another angiogram to double check there was no aneurysm.. I think Kent ward must have been for slightly less sick people, and it didn't work so much like clockwork, partly because it was a weekend and there only seemed to be one proper nurse. All the staff who looked after me (with the sole exception of one rather rude male agency nurse who seemed in a huff at having to work on a Saturday night) seemed really professional. I think that is the important thing, but all the permanent staff were really nice as well, down to the man with the tea trolley who was so patient. Given we were mostly on a soft diet, the food wasn't bad at all! Patients were helped to eat and drink. Tea and coffee were available on demand. I did wait ages to be discharged because everyone was so busy, and that was a shame because I'm sure the bed was needed. It also meant that the doctor who said he was going to come back and see me, didn't. I just got a message saying "you can go home now" and the poor nurse at the end of her shift had to hand me a letter . Thanks, you did a great job. Having looked it all up on the internet, as one does, I am satisfied I got the best possible treatment. I couldn't care less about the number of TV channels as one reviewer mentioned. Where I was, you were either too sick to open your eyes, or else reading a Kindle. I've taken one star off one category because, although I do think the staff worked well together, they were so busy that time was wasted until they could do so. That's not their fault. Anyway, many thanks to all and a parting thought - in the US, my treatment could have cost me maybe 100,000 dollars, and if I hadn't got the money, I could have been left to die.
