A critical emergency laparotomy and bowel resectioning was performed by the consultant and his team (22/12/14) .an interim 48hr.period on a ventilator in Intensive Care then allowed complete bowel reconnection.(24/12/14) The skill, speed, and professionalism of all who attended every phase of this event cannot be praised highly enough, and without their dedication, at a time when minutes mattered, I would not have had another chance to live life once again. The recovery and after-care in F 5 was excellent, the teamwork and co-ordination at all levels of my care, and that of my ward colleagues could not have been better. It is difficult for anyone who hasn't witnessed, first hand, these exemplary standards of care to understand just what ward staff enthusiasm and willing help throughout, really means. Nothing, for anyone, being too much trouble. I find it sad that so little praise for the NHS and the wonderful staff and their work ever finds headlines in the media, it's only news, probably when things go badly wrong. What a pity. However I can never speak highly enough of the efficiency, care and professionalism witnessed at every level of the West Suffolk team(s)........Mike Parker
