"emergency high blood pressure"

I wasn't expecting to be admitted at 8pm at night having been sent by my GP. I was seen quickly and tests were done without fuss. Everyone I met from senior nurses to porters treated me with kindness and courtesy. Everywhere I went the standard of cleanliness were very high. I am not keen on hospitals generally (I think it is known as "white coat syndrome") but was made to feel very safe and at ease. The nurse that took care of me all night was very kind and polite. When visited be doctors, my situation and prognosis was explained carefully and with a comforting warmth. Because of accurate assessment and correct prescription of drugs my blood pressure dropped from a lethal 224/160 to a much safer 169/93 and I ended up in Ambulatory Care waiting for confirmation I was well enough to go home. Although this seemed to take forever, I was treated with amazing kindness and respect. It gave me time to watch the senior nurse who never stopped taking care of the patients in every way. From complex administration of drugs to a diabetic, to loaning her own mobile phone so an elderly man could phone his wife. Even cleaning the floor and beds herself making tea and always making time for a cheery word or a longer chat about anything that concerned her patients. Quite an amazing lady and a tribute to the hospital. With so much negative publicity about the NHS, I hope I do just a tiny amount to balance that from my own personal experience.
