"A great standard of care at a scary time"

On January 2nd I was sent to LGI for an emergency MRI scan as I had been experiencing extreme back pain since December 2014 but had now lost the use of my legs. I was at the hospital at 2pm and had to wait as I did not have an appointment. The moment I was scanned everything changed. I was whisked back to the neurology ward where it was explained I had to have emergency surgery. My operation was explained very well to me and I signed the consent forms. By 9pm I was being operated on and at 11pm I was admitted to the neurosurgery post surgical ward. I was looked after there fantastically as I had lost to use of my legs and was in some distress, the nurses there although very busy were respectful and attentive and I felt very well looked after. After 2 days I was moved to a cardiology ward, this is a practise that happens all over the place to free up beds when a hospital is full, my surgeon was not happy I was moved but could do nothing, a cardiology ward isn't really where I should have been. However aside from this particular ward being particularly stretched they also managed my care very well. I did not like being moved and the staff clearly didn't like moving me but I'm not going to let this affect my review because the general standard of care delivered was top notch, with some of the friendliest physios I've ever met.

I have passed your comments on to the Neurology department and also to the Cardiology department at Leeds General Infirmary. I know the staff will be extremely happy with the feedback you have given.

I would also like to express my gratitude for your understanding that at these difficult times where NHS resources are stretched, difficult decisions to move patients to different wards and departments are made to allow for the high influx of patients that we have during the winter time.
