"Lovely staff, but total lack of communication"

About: Barnet General Hospital

I was transferred to Barnet Hospital from North Middlesex via ambulance after contracting a severe bacterial infection in my throat. The ambulance staff left me in the waiting room for 3 hours without being seen- the doctor who was supposed to see me did not even bother looking for me. I enquired with the receptionist twice, which meant standing up and attempting to speak when I was in no position to do so (fever, disorientation, lack of balance, dehydration, headache, loss of vision, earache, not being able to speak without great amount of pain). She was most unhelpful and simply told me to wait, even though she knew I had been transferred to see a specific member of staff who was waiting for me. I also had a cannula still on my forearm which was causing discomfort. After 3 hours of lying on metal chairs, the doctor finally bothered to poke her nose round the door (which had been less than 5 meters from where I had been lying) and told me I should have said something. (Which of course I had already done) After this I was taken to a ward, where my information was routinely lost, and I discharged waiting 2 hours for my prescription to be dispensed. On the whole, the ward staff were nice, but far too many errors occurred that put my health at risk. I ended up having to pay for a taxi back into the London area, even though I had been transferred on doctors orders. Not a great experience.
