"A&E Admission for elderly mother"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

My mother had a severe nosebleed at home and after speaking to her GP I called an ambulance for her. She has myeloma and is on a range of chemotherapy drugs so I was reluctant to take her to A&E waiting area due to risk of infection. Ambulance personnel were fantastic, tried to stop the bleeding without success, tried to find a minor injuries unit to treat her without success so they ended up taking her to Frimley. She was quickly seen by ENT doctor and the bleeding was stopped with nose packing, she was then admitted for the night and a bed found in a side room on the short stay ward which was great as less risk of infection (a big issue at this time of year for all elderly patients!) I noticed complaints about similar treatment for an elderly lady on a earlier review I can honestly say I would rather Mum was in a side room with no TV etc than on an open ward risking infection! All the staff she saw from the ambulance personnel, doctors and nurses were excellent, professional and caring. She was helped with her food and mobility as necessary. Thank you to them all for looking after her.
