"Unhappy with ankle that doesn't seem to be healing"

About: Warwick Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was involved in a road traffic accident in mid July where I was taken to Warwick hospital with a badly broken ankle. I was x-rayed etc and was told that I would have an operation the following day and the Consultant would be seeing me.

Long story short - I waited four days - nil by mouth, waiting for consultants and theatre time, during which I received NO hot food nor was I washed. I had the op one evening and was discharged the following morning. I was given crutches and paracetamols, and sent home.

Two weeks of agony later the plaster was removed to show a massive infection in my ankle, the x - rays showed that the surgery had been a failure and I was told with no compassion or explanation that I needed more surgery when the infection was clear. Its now a further three weeks on and the infection is as bad - despite taking two lots of Penicillin and my faulty surgery surely must be healing up.

I am on crutches and cannot work. I'm not getting paid. My wife is at her wits end trying to cope with her job and looking after me, and its five weeks since my accident and I'm nowhere near getting healed or even on the way. I' m desperately worried and the staff really don’t seem care about my situation - even though in my opinion they created the problem in the first place. I wish I could go back in time and take the air ambulance to Coventry University instead - I might be nearly walking now.
