I am one of the lucky ones. I saw blood in my stool and my doctor confirmed that it was serious. I went for tests and was admitted to hospital.
I was in for eight days and my treatment was excellent. At home for one week, then had stitches removed.
I had an epidural for three days and this gave me a pain free time, I then went on to strong pain killers (while in hospital).
All in all i was very pleased, the hospital was clean and the staff were firm but fair. I found it better to eat only a small ammount of food and get out of bed as soon as possible. The removal of the drain tube and catheter did hurt a lot as did the car park charges.
Many thanks to all concerned.
To anyone with sudden changes in bowel habits, don't delay: my friend did and died.
