The a&e department of the ruh was fantastic. I was very ill with gastroenteritis. After 4 days of not being able to eat or drink at home I went to hospital. Saw a very nice nurse practitioner first who prescribed some anti-sickness tablets. Had I not been so dehydrated, these tablets might have worked. I went back home, tablets on my gum, and was sick again. Blood. It. Was. Horrendous. So we came back and I was admitted immediately, put on a drip, given intravenous paracetamol and anti-sickness tablets. A week later, I was discharged after I started drinking again. All the doctors and nurses I came into contact with were incredibly nice, lovely, friendly people. I kept apologising for being a nuisance as I felt I should really be at home. At no point did anyone say I shouldn't be there. I felt like if I'd asked one of the nurses to chop off an arm for me they would have done it. I have never felt more welcome somewhere before. The ruh was wonderful and I think considering the financial and practical pressures the nhs is under, they (the staff) all did fabulously.
