"Father's poor care at Colchester General"

About: Colchester General Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

About 3 years ago my father was admitted to Wivenhoe ward with a serious urine infection. He had advanced Prostate cancer and was having various complications associated with his bladder and bowel.

While he was there he collapsed in huge toilet and soiled himself, making quite a mess. He used the emergency call button and a male orderly came in, took one look at him and said he'd have to get a nurse. Nobody ever came....my father, being too polite (!) to ring them again, attempted to clean himself up and the toilet before returning to his bedside chair.

We visited approx 5 hours later to find him sitting in soiled pajamas. We were totally disgusted but finding a nurse to clean him up took ages. We never even received an apology.

At the time my father asked us not to complain but the more I hear about other patients' treatment at Colchester, the more I wanted to share his story.
