"Infection control"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

On visiting my sister on G4 i noted that infection control leaves a lot to be desired. For example, a qualified nurse was taking a cannula out of a nearby patient and then came to take my sisters blood transfusion line out, without washing her hands. My sister asked her politely to wash her hands and the nurse looked at my sister with contempt. My sister read up on MRSA and did all the prep with the antibacterial solution leading up to her going in for an op. What is the point of my sister doing all the prep if the basic nursing needs are not being met. Also the lifts in bolton hospital are absolutely filthy and leave a lot to be desired. I also had an appointment for the vascular surgery leg ulcer clinic. Some time after arriving my name was shouted out. I went up to the support worker who proceeded to take my BP, weight and height. This was done in the waiting area in full view and earshot of all the other patients. Where was my dignity in that. I asked why they did not have a seperate room for this. The reply was "we dont nave one". I am a retired nursing sister so do know about patient confidentiality, dignity and infection control. It would appear to me that Bolton hospital need to train and retrain their staff on the importance of handwashing. No point in having notices everywhere asking visitors to wash there hands when staff are not doing this basic nursing activity.
