At the end of June I was admitted to Huddersfield Infirmary at approximately 6pm with a kidney infection, didn't receive any pain medication till after 9pm and didn't see a doctor till 1am, which I understand is not uncommon as the doctor I was to see had many areas to cover.
I was in a room with another patient who had similar condition to me but also displayed bad cough, high temp and aching.
After a 2 day stay I was allowed to go home, on the morning I could go home the staff on the ward had decided they thought the person I had shared room with was also suffering from swine flu as well as kidney infection.
I asked staff if there was anything I should do as I was concerned as I had shared a room and bathroom with her for 2 days, I was told to 'not kiss her'! mmm helpful. I asked again later as I have a toddler at home and was concerned, I was told “well flu is flu, if your going to get it you will". Again, not particularly helpful.
I have since displayed various symptoms of swine flu and have now been given Tamiflu.
I am more than a little annoyed that I didn't get better advice in hospital and wasn't given the option of Tamiflu on discharge.
"poor advice on swine flu at Huddersfield"
