"My son's result should have been communicated to us"

About: Upton Medical Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was unwell and we took him to the NHS Walk In Centre in St Helens.

A urine sample from my son was sent for testing. We were told he may have an infection but they would sent it to the lab and know for sure and we would be contacted only if there was a problem and that if we heard nothing then it was clear.

We did not hear back, so a week later I phoned the walk-in centre to confirm there was no problem. They could not or would not tell me the results, but reiterated that if there was any issues we would have been contacted.

Later the same week, once back home, we went to our own GP as my son was still not right. They chased up the sample and found it was not clear but contaminated so could not get proper results.

We should have been contacted to let us know this. My son ended up in hospital needing an operation as his urine infection was a symptom of a more serious problem.
