"Incorrect information about blood tests"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

I was taken to Tameside Hospital by ambulance at 7. 30pm. I was suffering from chest pain. The ambulance gave me medication under the tongue, then I had blood taken by a doctor at 9pm. I was told that the results of the blood test would be back in half an hour and then I would have to have another one. The doctor was sitting opposite my cubicle so at 9. 45 I asked if the blood tests were back, but was told no. At 10. 15 I asked a nurse – she said blood tests don’t come back for at least 2 hours and that it would be 12 hours before the next blood test.

I wasn’t given any indication that I would have to stay overnight and couldn’t do this. In the end I discharged myself. Why did the doctor not give me correct information? I ended up going back next day for the blood tests.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your poor experience following your recent visit to Tameside Hospital.

Please accept our apologies that we did not meet your expectations.

It is difficult to comment on an individual case without being able to review the medical notes, It is unacceptable to have kept you waiting longer than is necessary without keeping you fully informed. Dependent on the reason for your attendance to A&E and subsequent admission for assessment

If you would like a more personal and detailed response please contact Alice Baxter on 0161 922 5199

Many thanks

’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed.
