"1 Ignorant doctor ruined 9 years of admiration"

About: St Lukes Hospital (Bradford)

First of all, please let me say that I have rarely had a bad expereince at dermatology - St. Lukes Bradford. I have been coming to Dermatology for nearly 9 years, for Acne treatment... bar the waiting times, i have rarely had an issue. Also the nurses are great and reception staff are friendly and helpful. My issue is rather specific... I was seeing a "Consultant" that was supposed to asses whether I needed a certain treatment that I have been on and off for 7+ years. I.e; starting the treatment again after an instructed 3 months off by the Nurse. I explained that my Acne flares up and today was a relatively "good day"... despite this, the doctor (not the ususal consultant) dismissed 7+ years of my own, other nurses and doctors experience and said that we would review in another 3-4 months... He didnt check my back or chest (witthout me asking him if he wanted to check!), neck area or even have a close look at my face. If he had done, he would have seen the new-scar tissue from spots of recent weeks, as the other doctors usually do. There was a significant language barrier for me personally also, which did not help as I felt I could not convey what I wanted to say and he was very abrupt and rude so I felt like I could not explain how I felt about his diagnosis. It was as if he had better things to do with his day. Such a shame. After so many good experiences....

This is a shame and I am sorry that you had this poor experience, 9 years is a long time to have been attending a clinic. I would urge you to contact the PALS department on 01274 364021 at Bradford Royal Infirmary or 01274 365853 at St. Luke’s Hospital. The text phone number for deaf people is 01274 382580 at Bradford Royal Infirmary. You can also email pals@bthft.nhs.uk. They will be happy to help to support you, to try to ensure that this experience does not happen again. Thank you.
