Sent by my GP to A&E with suspected tia( mini stroke ). Seen by triage nurse within an hour. Within 20 minutes had ct scan. Seen by duty doctor soon after and within 4 hours in a bed on the stroke ward (Solomon ). All staff introduced themselves, smiled, put me at my ease and full explained what they were doing and why. This applied both to the A&E and the ward. Although I was only in for 24hrs I was impressed by the hard working and deicated staff. My only complaint was the food, which I would definitely rate as very substandard. I spent 8 years at a boarding school where the food was poor and this was even worse. The other thing which amazes me is bed blocking in the wards which stops the flow from A&E. Why oh why does after care come via local authorities? Surely it would be cheaper and far more efficient to shift after care to the NHS including home visits. Overall I was very pleased with my treatment.
