"My Husbands neurology appointment at Queen Elizabeth hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / Neurology

(as a relative),

My husband had an appointment with Neurology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but on his appointment letter it had a particular doctor. It was only when I phoned up with more information about my husband condition that I was told it was for a particular doctor. When we went to see the doctor, he had no medical History in front of him and it was down to us to explain why we went to see him even though it was important to have an update before appointment but the Dr had nothing of what he was there for.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about the Neurology Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience.

We are very sorry that the information about your husband’s medical history was not available for the doctor who saw him in clinic, and the impact this had on the quality of the consultation. This is certainly not the type of experience we aim to provide. We do have processes in place to ensure that information is provided to the medical staff before they see a patient. This is partly dependent on the correct information being provided when the referral is made. At this stage without more information it is impossible to identify where the problem has originated. Your comments have been forwarded to the senior staff responsible for the Neurology Service; they are keen to investigate what happened and feedback to you directly. To help with this please could you make contact with us via the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at your earliest convenience?

PALS can be contacted by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-form.htm or in person by dropping in between 9am – 5pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located near the Information Desk in the main entrance of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
