"Why a pre-appointment for urgent colonoscopy?"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / General surgery

(as other),

My parter was referred urgently for a colonoscopy by her GP.

An appointment was sent promptly which we presumed was for the procedure and we were happy that she was being seen so quickly. However this turns out to be a pre-appointment before any procedure takes place.

It seems to me a waste of time and resources when all she needs is the procedure to diagnose the condition quickly.

Dear Neal.

Thanks for sharing your wife’s experience. Sorry that you feel that we wasted your time with the pre-operative appointment. These appointments are necessary as they give us chance to give patients the information they need about the procedure they will be having. Our clinicians also ensure patients are fit to undergo surgery and patients have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have ahead of their operation. The pre-operative team have asked for more information in order to provide you with a fuller response. If you are happy to do so then please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 1830204 or email PALS@nuh.nhs.uk.
