"I was viciously attacked "

About: North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

In June, I called the police due to a domestic violence incident. The police took me to Whiston for a medical and a psych assessment. I suffer with manifesting carrier of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I also suffer with bi-polar manic depression, personality disorder and OCD. I was then taken to Wigan Leigh Hospital because there were no beds anywhere in the 5 Boroughs Partnerships.

While here, I was viciously attacked which was unprovoked. There were four staff on the ward and it took what seemed like five minutes for anyone to pull alarms. I went to my room as I was in a state.

I still haven’t seen a police officer and it has been 10 days since the incident. I wonder if the staff reported the violence in any way.

Stop violence, discrimination and increase the number of staff. Some staff are brilliant but I think that some are disrespectful and show no dignity.

Thank you for your comments. I am very concerned about your recent experience on our inpatients unit. Please contact myself Christine Molyneux, Acting Service Manager, Tel 01942 264822 at the earliest opportunity, as i am keen to investigate this incident.

As a Trust we believe any form of violence or aggression to service users, visitors or staff is unacceptable. Our staff have Trust policies/procedures and training in place to help them deal with such incidents.

There is an expectation of our staff, that they report all such incidents using the Trusts incident reporting system. They should offer the victims medical assistance, support, assist them to report the crime.

In the meantime, i will ensure the manager discusses the incident with the team, and that they reflect on what actions should be taken when such incidents occur. I am sad to hear that you found all staf to be disrespectful. It is very important that we receive both negative and positive feedback from our service users. This helps us to learn from all mistakes and continue to develop and improve our services.

Once again thank you for your comments and i look forward to hearing from you.
