"Over two hours waiting in A & E with my 11 year..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

My GP referred my 11 year old son, who has a torn thigh muscle, to see a consultant at Broomfield Hospital today. We were told to go to A & E before 6pm and the consultant would be there. We got there at 5.15 and saw a nurse. At 7 pm I asked a nurse when was he going to be seen because people who had arrived after us were being seen before us. She said we'd be next, at about 7.45 we still, hadn't been seen and there wasn't a doctor in sight. I spoke to a nurse again who gave me some waffle about ""all the doctors were helping out on another part of the hospital. By this time I had lost my seat, we hadn't eaten for hours, there was nowhere where you could easily get anything to eat or drink. We left!

We are really sorry at the delay that occurred in your son being seen by the consultant. It is unfortunate that when we are very busy delays can occur. Our A&E Team work under tremendous pressure and prioritise patients by their clinical need.
