"Yes, we all know the hospital is run down and..."

Yes, we all know the hospital is run down and antiquated and much of it seems to be held together with sellotape and super glue! And to be honest I was terrified when I found out I needed an op - not so much with the procedure BUT the fact that it was being done at stoke Mandeville! Today I had my Pre op appointment - my pre op nurse was so thorough, she took her time and made sure i was happy with evey stage she spoke to me like a person - like she would speak to a friend. I was treated the same way by the other nurses and staff when i went for my ecg and bloods "with kindness and humour" i am now at ease with having my op at Stoke Mandeville - after all its not the walls and furniture looking sfter us!
