"Very impressed!"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

After all the rubbish in the news about our hospital I was thoroughly impressed with the new children's A&E. All the staff I met were friendly and caring...it didn't feel like we were being rushed. We barely had time to sit down before we were called through by a nurse to be assessed. My daughter was given painkillers then sent to X-ray. Again on our return we barely sat when the Dr called us to a room fully kitted out to be child friendly and not at all like a clinical area. The Dr talked us through her diagnosis and again we didn't feel in the least bit rushed. We were in the department for less than two hours. Would recommend this area until I'm blue in the face. The environment was bright and cheery with child friendly refreshments ( no kids like water so was pleased to see squash!). I must also praise the radiographer. My daughter has hearing problems and after explaining them the radiographer made sure my daughter could communicate with her effectively which is pretty hard in such a dark room but she took the time to make sure my daughter understood the process.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience of bringing your daughter to the children's emergency department. I'm really grateful for your kind comments and will share them with the team. I hope your daughter is doing well. Helen Runcorn Emergency Department Matron
