"Emergency and End of Life Care"

About: Southend Hospital

On behalf of my family, I would like to express our deep gratitude for the exceptional care, compassion and professionalism of all of the staff involved the care of my mother who sadly passed away last week. I would like to include the 999 operator who calmly guided us and waited until medical help arrived. The First Response and Paramedic teams for their speed and effort. The Emergency Department staff, including the receptionists, the nurses and the doctors for their skills, respect and compassion in explaining and discussing what was happening with us. The staff of Dowsett Ward for their kindness and keeping us informed, and for the tireless work of the staff on George Foster Taylor/ Westcliff Ward, including the cleaners, the adminstrator, the nurses and doctors. My mother could not have been treated with greater care, respect and dignity, and we,her family, could not have received more support. We would also like to thank the Chaplain for his comforting words and say thank you once more to those who did all that was possible and more.

Thank you for your post and kind words relating to the care of your Mother. It is great to hear that all staff met you, your family and Mother's expectations. I offer condolences to your family as this must be a hard time, however on behalf of the trust I thank you for taking time to thank the staff and I ensure you I have passed your words to staff and management to forward onto all concerned. Many Thanks and wishing you well for the future. Louise McIver Patient Involvement Lead Southend University NHS Foundation Trust
