"skin to skin"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

I had a baby on 29th December 2014 in the Vic. It was a c-section. Straight after my baby daughter was out I got to hold her as part of hospitals "skin to skin" practice. It was fantastic. I relaxed and forgot I was operated on because I concentrated on the baby. It made me feel calm as well. Well done for whoever decided to start with this practice. Good thinking

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent experience of our Maternity Services.

I am really pleased to hear that the skin-to-skin initiative was used and that you felt much calmer as a result of this. Our midwives are advocates of immediate contact after all births to encourage bonding and to help babies adapt to their new environment. They have found uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact calms and relaxes both mother and baby and usually leads to the baby going on to feed effectively.

I will share your kind words with the midwives to encourage them to continue providing this beneficial service on a daily basis.

With best wishes for the future,

Eleanor Walsh
