"Not happy with the doctor`s opinion concerning my daughter"

About: St Thomas Hospital (Stockport)

(as a relative),

For a period of about 15 years my daughter, who lives in London, has suffered with stomach pains, for which she has made many visits to her GP. As she has been a long term sufferer of endometriosis, the pain has often been attributed to that and has never been investigated properly. In April 2008 she was diagnosed with cholecystitis & was referred for surgery at St Thomas Hospital, London in July. Initially there was great improvement in the level of pain she suffered but subsequently she then had a large umbilical hernia. On referral for surgery the consultant stated to her GP that this was a direct result of untidy workmanship from the keyhole cholecystectomy.

The repair surgery was performed as open surgery in April 09 as it could not be rectified by keyhole. She was discharged the same day, and has been on sick leave since apart from 2 days to do very light sitting down work. But she found it too uncomfortable to undertake her duties as it was after only 5 weeks from her surgery. She is now still suffering from pain and has had further investigations regarding her oesophagus. She has been very relieved to been told that she is not suffering from Barretts oesophagus, as her GP explained this could have become cancerous. As she lives 250 miles away in London away from her family, I write to ask for help and advice on her situation without causing any disruption to any treatment she may require. Her GP has now referred her back to seek work but my daughter feels unable to fulfil work in her present state. She is in constant pain, restless & unable to sleep well as a consequence. I am not happy with the doctor’s opinion in this case. She is not an idle person, she has been working all her life.

Worried father
