"Admitted to AAU with reactive arthritis"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

I was referred to Burton Hospital with suspected Guillain–Barré syndrome, and was promptly seen in Ward 9, where the staff were very quick to respond and investigate why I was so poorly. After an hour or so I was moved to Ward 8 where once again I received very prompt attention and was made to feel very welcome. Fortunately the consultant realised that I had reactive arthritis which was quite a relief as GBS is rather nasty. I stayed in hospital for five days and throughout this whole time and at subsequent outpatient visits the standard of care was outstanding. I witnessed first hand how hard the staff work on a 24 hour basis, it is unrelenting and they were so good at dealing sympathetically with very poorly patients. The consultants, doctors, nurses, HCAs and support staff work really hard and are experts in their chosen fields. A special mention to the stroke consultant and the rheumatology consultant, and their teams. Their knowledge and attention to detail is incredible. The atmosphere on the wards was very supportive and whenever possible staff made the patients smile. I would not hesitate to recommend Burton Hospital to other patients, and I am very proud to have such an excellent hospital so close to home.
