"My Orthodontic Journey"

About: Barnsley Hospital / Orthodontics

(as the patient),

My experience of orthodontics generally is they don’t seem to appreciate the emotional journey a patient goes on through orthodontic treatment. I would have been treated many many years ago had they taken the time to explain the treatment and provided me with more information. Instead I was told to go and wait on the waiting list in which time I fretted worried what it would be like and by the time the appointment came I talked myself out of it.

The orthodontic nurse I have now is absolutely fantastic. For the first I have felt comfortable going and look forward to it. I know any problems I have I can ring and speak with her. If I need an emergency appointment they always try to help. The admin and nurses are fantastic. My orthodontic Dr is also very good, the only improvements they could make is explain more, tell me why they are adding wires or elastics etc, tell me if things are progressing well or going slower than expected, even better give me a treatment plan at the beginning that explains what roughly will happen at each appointment and reasons why it wouldn’t. So many times I have been told next time we will put on elastics, the next time they do not, which is heart sinking, but mainly because I don’t know if wearing elastics is progress and not wearing them is a sign things are going slower than expected. So more information would be a great help.

All that said, i am probably considered old to wear braces, i wish i had started 18 years ago, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If you need to go to Barnsley for Orthodontics I can say you will receive first class service every time you go.
