Following my terrible experience at the Walk In Centre at this hospital, and as a result of the superb care received through my GP Practice, I was sent to see a Respiratory Specialist Consultant this week. Upon arriving at the Medical Outpatient Department, I was greeted by friendly and efficient staff then taken to the waiting area. Even though we arrived early, I was taken almost immediately for pre appointment tests by a lovely auxiliary and then saw the consultant. He greated us with a hand shake and recognition of my name (doesn't always happen in my experience!) and was excellent. He listened to the whole context and then gave his advice. He was clear and concise in his explanations of diagnosis and treatment and ensured I left feeling fully informed about the parameters for the best asthma management for me to monitor at home. He was very thorough and made sure that all the questions we had were answered and arranged for an asthma plan to be drawn up before we left. After returning from the phlebotomists, the nurses were still all busy so he took it upon himself to write it out and run through it with me himself. A genuinely superb Doctor in both of our opinions. There seems to be a bit of a lottery within this hospital as there are so many excellent staff, yet a few let the whole side down. I was grateful for this appointment, which was a cancellation at short notice and we both felt that the whole department was well run, with clearly happy and motivated staff, who were interacting well with each other and with patients. Thank you for re-instilling some confidence here.
