"You saved my life and gave me excellent care"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I was admitted to Ward 6 on the night of Tuesday 30 December with extreme pain caused by a blocked small bowel. The staff immediately gave me pain relief and diagnosed my condition (including opening up the X ray department in the middle of the night so I could have a CT scan). As a result the consultant could give me emergency surgery first thing the next morning. My next few days were spent in great pain but the staff on Ward 6 looked after me with great care and kindness, despite being very busy. I was able to be discharged the following Monday and have since made a good recovery. This was my first experience as an in patient and so reassuring that despite all one sees in the media I know the hospital service can really do its job when the chips are down.

Dear Jack, As someone who has never been admitted to hospital before, it must have been pretty frightening for you to become suddenly and so seriously ill. I am so glad that the urgent response of our clinical teams and their kindness and compassion enabled you to get everything you needed from us that night. I can see how appreciative you are of the care that you received on ward 6 and it’s lovely to be in a position to pass this message on to our staff – they will be really chuffed to receive it. Thanks. Delighted to hear your recovery has gone well. Do take great care of yourself and please come back to us if there’s anything you need. With thanks, Annie
