About: Southmead Hospital

I have to say, many people always come on here claiming that they had to wait hours, but honestly. My visit and experience with staff was amazing, after calling 999 while in the wake of attempting to commit suicide, the paramedic staff were very kind and accepting and took me to the hospital for fear of leaving me alone. I got a lot of good advice, and after a hour or two I was seen by a lovely neurology doctor who admitted me to Southmeads SAU (Seated Assessment Unit) for a night as the psychiatric doctors had shut for the night. While there I was made as comfortable as possible, vitals checked regularly, and nurses always treating you with the utmost respect. After the night was over and being given some lovely breakfast I spoke to a psychiatric doctor who advised me on how to cope with relapses of depression and assured me that I wasn't "crazy" , just mentally vunerable. I was discharged quickly and easily, and off I went and was back to work the next day! Big thanks to Neurology and Psychatrics! xx
