"Children's A&E and Ward F63"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Our 3 year old son fell and broke his femur on Christmas Eve. We can not praise all of the staff involved in his care enough. On arriving in A&E he was seen immediately by a team of doctors and nurses who explained everything they were doing and reassured us and our son. Our son spent the next 3 weeks on ward F63 where every member of staff was outstanding and couldn't do enough to help. As this accident occurred on Christmas Eve we spent the whole of Christmas in hospital, our room was decorated and we all received such lovely gifts plus a visit from Santa on Christmas morning. Our son was put at ease by the nursing team who all had a lovely manner and showed such care. He especially enjoyed the play activities and regular trips on his bed to the playroom. As parents we were made very welcome and able to stay with our son during this difficult time. The ward was exceptionally clean thanks to a fantastic cleaner who alway made time to chat to our son. We will always speak highly of the exceptional care we received.

Thank you for your feedback. We will share your comments with the teams involved in your son's care and they will be delighted to know their efforts have really made a difference to you and your family. The staff on the paediatric wards always make every effort to ensure their patients do not miss out on events throughout the year and Christmas is always a special time on the wards. We hope your son is now recovering well at home. Thank you once again.
