"Short stay in A&E - excellent care"

About: Southampton General Hospital

I'm pregnant and had to go into A&E with heart palpitations. The queue into the car park was very long, so I called the switchboard and was put through to the parking dept. I was guided over the phone to a free parking space right outside the doors to A&E, which was amazing. Being pregnant with a dodgy heart meant I was seen instantly and received swift, excellent, friendly care in Resus. The procedure I had to have to stop the palpitations was unpleasant from experience but the staff made it so much better with their warmth of care. I was kept in for observation for a couple of hours in a CDU ward which was very comfortable. I was offered a cup of tea within minutes of arriving at this ward which was a lovely touch. I'm so grateful to live in a country where I can receive excellent free at the point of use health care. I know waiting times can be far too long, but when you need the NHS in an emergency, they really are there for you.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback about the help you received when you arrived at the hospital from the Travelwise department and the onward care from staff in the A&E department and CDU. We will share you comments with staff in each of the departments and wish you well as you look forward to the birth of your baby.
