"Living with insomnia for 23 years"

About: Hull Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

I first got insomnia when my ex-wife and I split. It takes me AGES to get to sleep, and even then I feel like a zombie the next day.

I have never gotten much sympathy from my GP's. Some treat it with about as much concern as a broken finger nail. I wish they had it - something would be done about it then!

Dear Sleepless Chris Many thanks for placing your posting on the Patient Opinion website. We are sorry to hear that you feel you have not received much support from your GP. As you have access to the internet, you may find it useful to have a look at the NHS Choices website which provides a wealth of information about insomnia and its causes and treatments. If you were able to discuss it further with you GP, you may wish to ask for a referral to the Sleep Clinic at the hospital. Alternatively, as you have identified that your difficulties began when your marriage broke up, it may be that you might find counselling beneficial and, again, your GP would be able to refer you for this. We hope that this is useful. NHS Hull is the organisation responsible for deciding how money is spent on local health services [also known as commissioning], ensuring those services are of high quality and meet local needs. We value all feedback and if you would like to discuss this matter further with us, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service on 01482 335409 or by email. If you would like to become more involved in decisions about local healthcare, all local health Trusts are recruiting ‘members’. By becoming a member you can receive advice on keeping yourself and your family healthy, find out more about your local NHS and help us improve local services. You don’t need any special skills or experience to become a member, you just need an interest in local health services. There is no commitment, you can get involved as much or as little as you choose. For more information please either by email or telephone 01482 675165. Thank you once again for taking the time to provide us with your views on local services.

Dear Sir/Madame, I have just sent an email off to become a member, to have a say in how much NHS money is spent in what way, in my local Area.

Thankyou
