I tried to put a review in a week or so ago but it hasn't been published... In September i went into A&E with acute urine retention due to a stricture which reached obliterative stage, very painful, won't go on about that, not enough space here, was a mess up, put it that way, in the morning I was given a choice of 2 ops, 3 weeks for smaller temporary op, i chose the big more curative but risky op, 8-12 weeks wait, then a few weeks later I developed a UTI from the catheter, went to docs, they showed me on the PC the referral to leeds as sent. Then I had problems with the normal catheter, asked to be changed to a suprapubic one, got that changed middle of October, and i was told the referral hadn't actually been sent as "they were still waiting on my choice"..... O_o and then offered enrollment in a trial which I went for, i met the representative urologist on November and joined the OPEN trial, i was, that day, randomised into the repeat smaller op and told id be put down as urgent ( last time I had this op as none urgent it took 8 weeks, so urgent i was thinking 2-3) Which, after complaining to the waiting list department, i got a date for 5th Jan, last week, ( pre op was 31st December, i said I'd need a bed due to last time I had delayed excessive bleeding, and the nurse noted it as important) and 2 hours before due in theatre i was told there was no beds and it was unsafe to go ahead with op as they wouldn't be able to monitor me post op, as day unit closed at 7 and no where to be transferred from there. I was told itd take 4 weeks to get back in, or i could change back to the big op, which could be anywhere between 8-16 weeks, I was financially forced to choose smaller op, as company sick pay ran out last week, and as anyone who's working / middle class will tell you, statutory sick pay is awful, and i would be losing far too much money waiting for that long. After pleading to urologist iv been rescheduled for 19th, still be losing £200 is wages and still 95% housebound. Also None urgent = 8 weeks, urgent = 10 weeks.... For same op..... experienced 3 new most painful feelings of all time pains since September, one of which was a SPC change last week which wouldn't have happened if I'd had the op. If the referral to leeds had actually been sent after I decided it in September, id of had the big curative op weeks ago, but due to delays out of my hands iv waited 4 months for the smaller op I could of had done 3 months ago. If money was no issue I would wait for the big op now, but the pain is debilitating, plus id be like £2000 down. Would go into the red :/ I'm grateful for the help as I know I could be alot worse off, so I can't be too disgruntled, but alot of pain and suffering could of been avoided, especially last 6 weeks. codeine barely takes the edge off. The nurses and doctors do a great job, they have it so hard for an underpaid job. So i thank them for their help this last while :)
