"Excellent care from Endoscopy Department"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

I really cannot praise highly enough the standard of care I received regarding the Colonoscopy Examination I underwent on Monday. From the receptionist who made the booking appointment and explained the preparation procedure I would need to do at home prior to attending hospital to the lovely nurse who took such good care of me when I arrived I felt at ease and reassured every step of the way. The department is fairly new, bright and thoroughly clean. I waited no more than five minutes before being called through to the clinic for the pre-op assessment. Everything was explained clearly to make sure I understood what would be happening to me and I was asked if I was happy to go ahead. I was given two options regarding pain relief and sedation and I chose to be sedated as I was anxious about the procedure. The doctor carrying out the examination came to see me and again went through everything with me before I signed the consent form, putting me at ease and treating me in a respectful and dignified manner. We even managed to joke about it! The procedure wasn't pleasant but thanks to the Doctor and the kind nursing staff it was bearable and over with before I knew it. After a while in the recovery room, where once again I was given excellent care I was seen by the nurse who gave me a copy of the report, talked through it and gave me advice regarding the next 24 hours before being discharging me into the care of my GP for a follow up appointment.. I was dreading the whole thing so much that by the time I arrived I was literally shaking with nerves but I am so pleased I chose the Harvey because the staff there made the process from beginning to end far less of a traumatic experience than I was expecting and if I have to repeat it at any time in the future I will definitely ask to be seen at the William Harvey.
