"Excellent treatment despite the pressures"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

My husband was brought to A and E by the ambulance service on 02/01/15 following a cycle accident. All the staff were professional and ensured that we understood what was to happen at all times. CAT scans and X rays were completed very swiftly. Because this was a head injury the results were discussed with the specialist Dept at the John Radcliffe, which was reassuring. He was admitted to Ward 1B. On Saturday 03/01 the Matron gave a masterclass in how to run a busy ward in difficult circumstances. She was assisted by a staff largely of HCA, several of whom had only recently arrived in the UK. She was encouraging and supportive and, as a result, several stayed on to work longer hours than timetabled. He was discharged on 03/01 but unfortunately had to return on 07/01 because his health deteriorated. We knew, of course, of the pressures on A and E but the staff revealed none of stress they must have been under Again, another scan was swiftly arranged and the results again discussed with the JR. This time no appropriate bed was available and he spent two nights on EDDU. Although this was an extremely busy environment he again experienced fine nursing. On 08/01 the Staff Nurse was excellent. She spoke to the elderly and confused in the kindest manner and she thanked her staff for all their help, even managing a little conversational Spanish with one colleague. Many thanks also to the housekeeping staff working constantly to ensure a good standard of cleanliness. The promised improvements to parking, though, are long overdue.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback after your husband was admitted to Wexham Park Hospital. I am pleased to read your positive comments regarding the professionalism of the staff, speed of the tests, leadership of Ward 1B Matron and the standard of nursing care demonstrated. Our aim is to ensure all our patients have this experience every time, and I am glad we succeeded in the case of your husband. The car parking is challenging and you may be aware that we have recently submitted an application for additional spaces. If this application is approved the work will be completed this year. I will ensure your comments are passed onto the A&E, EDDU and Ward 1B teams who I know will be delighted to read your comments. I hope your husband is recovering well Kind Regards Claire Marshall Associate Director of Patient Experience and Public Involvement
