"Excellent and caring service"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

I visited A & E on 8th December with a severe burn (scald) on the right hand/wrist/arm. I was quite apprehensive because of the bad press that the NHS is receiving at the present time but although the department was extremely busy I had no problem whatsoever. The reception staff were very helpful, the triage nurse was excellent as was the Doctor who overviewed my injury and also the nurse who dressed it. I was made comfortable and out of the hospital far quicker than expected. The following day I returned for a new examination and dressing and was back in my car after 34 minutes with very efficient service once again. After that I visited my local surgery for dressings. I can only say thank you to all concerned and although the service was extremely fast on the second day, I do not know how the few staff there were able to cope with the crowd on the first day and I for one feel that they deserve every penny that they are paid.

Dear ‘VM’ Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and I am sorry to hear that you scalded your harm and hand. I can imagine it was very painful and the thought of having to wait for hours in A&E would not be a pleasant one. Thank you also for noting that you cannot believe everything you read in the press; whilst it is true that we have been exceedingly busy and under great pressure over the holiday period all the staff have worked tirelessly to make sure patient’s needs are met and treated appropriately. I am pleased to hear that the reception and triage staff were helpful and attentive and the doctor and nurse who attended to your wound made you comfortable and treated you swiftly. I will be sure to pass your comments to the Emergency Department Sister to share with her staff who I know are always happy to receive comments from their patients. Thanks you again for sharing your comment and I hope your wound soon heals. Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
