My 84 year old Mother, by paramedics to the A&E Department at WHH after suffering a fall at her Nursing Home in January 2015.
She was taken straight to a bed where she was assessed almost immediately, she had x-rays taken on her injured knees, an ECG, blood tests and other standard procedures were undertaken. When I arrived, about 90 minutes after my mother was admitted, I was taken in to see her, I was updated on her condition straight away by the Consultant (who had already updated the Manager at my mum's Nursing Home on her situation)unfortunately I didn't catch his name, but he explained everything in to me in a clear, concise manner, putting both myself and my mother at ease.
Before my mother could be discharged she had to undertake a short mobility test, which was undertaken by a young physiotherapist called Erika. She was absolutely brilliant with my mum (who also suffers from dementia), so patient and kind to her. The nurse who was assigned to my mum's area, Jane was also a star, again so considerate and caring. My mum was discharged about 4 hours after being taken in to the Department, Jane even took the trouble to wheel my mother out to my car and assisted my wife in getting her into the vehicle.
A&E Departments are receiving a great deal of bad publicity at the moment, however I wish to state how impressed we were with all aspects of our experience at the WHH. The Department appeared to be well organised, well staffed and we were all offered free hot and cold drinks.
On behalf of my mother I would be grateful if my comments and thanks could be passed on to this Department, and a special thank you to the staff I have mentioned, sorry I didn't get their full names.
