I am a serial self harmer. When requested, the ambulance service has always treated me with courtesy and respect. People at A&E at Northern General Hospital have always been understanding even under pressure from other situations that have arisen at the time. Service has always been prompt and other services have been offered (e.g. psychiatric services, other organisations). The doctors and nurses have always tried to make me as comfortable as possible and never judgemental or insulting.
However, I do find that psychiatric services have been the poor cousin to other services. Waiting lists and the time between appointments seems to leave a lot to be desired. I do realise that finances are not infinite. Other than that, I find the NHS to have treated me very well. Thank you.
