I atended the Northern General recently in Sheffield and was appalled by the general cleanliness and lack of hygiene procedures! The ward toilets I saw were appalling (I actually opted to use the visitors toilets on the ward), there was patient's blood very apparent on the drip/fluid stand next to my bed! I didn't see the doctors or nurses wash their hands after attending patients! Urine bottles were not cleared away and on some occasions I even had to ask to have it removed from my table whilst I was having my breakfast cereal!! The food I was given was absolutely appalling and as a caterer I am very qualified to comment on this!! On the plus side some of the nurses were very professional and pleasant whilst carrying out their duties. Given the choice again I would definately wait the extra time and attend The Royal Hallamshire which I now believe to be the better hospital in South Yorkshire.
