"Cleanliness of ward and follow up care"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as a relative),

In March this year, was seen by consultant and cancer care nurse in ward 18 day room which was also being used as a store room and photocopy room.

Boxes were stacked on the floor and the floor was filthy. broken furniture and equipment were also stored in room. Staff came in and out to use copier whilst we were waiting (consultant was 40 mins late which wouldn't have been a problem if someone had come and explained this to us). When I enquired about wait, I was also told we were also waiting on cancer nurse specialist (this was first mention of cancer diagnosis).

Follow up appointments were to be made at Beatson but weren't which delayed start of chemotherapy. Same issue (about follow up appointment) happened again in December, contacted Beatson today to find out about appointment and no referral letter has been sent 3 weeks after being advised it would be done.

Dear cmc14

I am really sorry to hear of this experience. I don't know the layout of Ward 18 at the RAH but it is utterly unacceptable that any area should be dirty etc. I am also very concerned and disappointed to learn of the mention of the cancer nurse specialist at that point in time.

Regarding the delays that you have experienced and ongoing issues regarding communications, please contact me directly. If you felt that you could share your details with me, I will liase with the Clinical Services Manager to address the issue and let you know what the situation is. Please contact me on niall.mcgrogan@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Yours sincerely,

Niall Mc Grogan
