"Emergency dentist"

About: Kensington and Chelsea PCT / Emergency dental service

(as the patient),

There are many people out there that have a dental phobia, unfortunately I am one of them. Having had many procedures on my mouth over the years and living with painful impacted wisdom teeth my dentist finally said " I wouldn't touch your mouth, even if you paid me." This lead to three years of me feeling unable to go to the dentist if I felt any pain and just settling for painkillers if my teeth hurt and avoiding 'problem' food.

yesterday, I found myself in horrendous pain in my lower right jaw that no painkiller could help, I was distraught. I contacted H&M PCT and was helped almost immediately with a list of dentists and also an emergency dentist at Charing Cross Hospital, where I received an appointment that very evening.

Sadly, when I got to see the dentist he was very unsympathetic, patronising and unhelpful towards me. He blamed me for the 'state' of my teeth and reinforced my fear of the dentist. He sent me away with an unsigned or dated prescription and told me that he didn't believe i was genuinely 'scared' and perhaps I should try going to the Eastman Hospital Dental A and E (which I have discovered needs a referral and does not have a dental emergency clinic).

I wasn't expecting to leave the A and E department with perfect teeth, however I honestly thought I would receive some form of urgent temporary pain relief and not to treated so rudely and unsympathetically in an emergency. I would not recommend the emergency dental service at Charing Cross to anyone.
