"Double hip op...nightmare to start but thank god..."

I recently ended up in hospital after a limp got worse. I ended up not weight bearing and the ambulance had to take me into A and E. The previous week I'd had an x Ray which obviously revealed something as I was told to be careful and come straight to A and E if got worse. It did hence the ambulance. I was given snippets of info all day about abnormal x Ray which made no sense. I had to go for more x Rays after a wait of 5 hours. I was in a wheelchair but after the x rays the radiographers said I needed to go on a trolley. I wasn't told why but it proved to be one of worst things ever to happen to me. I was 'rolled' onto a trolley and the pain I cannot describe. I screamed at the top of my voice as I felt something 'pop' in my inner thigh. My Mum was waiting outside and was so upset as she didn't know why I was screaming. Six or 7 staff tried to help but I was in absolute agony. I was wheeled into a non existent bay in A and E where the horrific muscle spasms started. I was crying out in pain but no one came to me. My mum was leaving as my husband came and 20 mins later I was still in excrutiating pain and had to shout to a passing nurse if I could have pain relief. An elderly lady in another bay kindly asked me if I was ok. The member of staff said I'll check your file. Another 10 mins later I asked again I was crying in pain. A nurse eventually came to me and said she was getting me sorted with morphine. She then said 'no wonder your in pain, you've broken both your hips' I was gobsmacked. No one had once given me a tiny idea that was the cause of my agony. I'm 40 yrs old and hadn't fallen or had accident so the shock was doubled. After being put in the assessment ward where a nurse asked why I was screaming when my leg muscles kept spasming and begging to have my bottoms cut off as I couldn't bare to be touched I was put onto ward 12. Worst night of my life bar none. I was put on a bay with 3 elderly ladies obviously suffering from mental illness as well as trauma. I begged the nurses for pain relief as the spasms and pain were truly intolerable. I was told no as my sheet hadn't been filled in and the doctor hadn't been yet. The spasms got worse and made me scream every time. I buzzed the staff again who I could see all chatting at the nurses bay. A nurse came over and said to my utter disgust ' can you not keep screaming, you're waking the others up' I cried myself to sleep in pain and upset. The following day I was moved to my own room. Obviously because i was too noisy. I eventually had both hips screwed in an op 4 days later and was moved to ward 11. There was a catalogue of horrendous cock ups and scary procedures that I haven't room to write. There were some lovely kind staff on ward 12 don't get me wrong but the staff on the night shift that night need some serious work on their care and professionalism. It will haunt me for a long time. Thank you ward 11 for the dignity and respect you gave me in one of worst times of my life.
