"Misinformed as to results"

About: Dorset County Hospital

We were contacted at 9.30pm 12.12.14 by the on call doctor who informed us that my partner , had grossly abnormal kidney test results and that she was to drink no alcohol and to contact 111 at 9am the very next morning to make an urgent appointment. We tried for 4 hours to make an appointment and were informed on 3 separate class to 111 that a call would be made back to us within 1/2 an hour. This did not happen and at 12.30 we went to the hospital our selfs, we were then told by the receptionist that we were on the list for a call back but no apology was made or even implied. We were then seen by the doctor on call at that time, who was totally miffed by our previous evenings call so seemed the opinion of another Dr and the on call registrar, all of whom had the same opinion and were very sorry. I am sure you can imagine our thoughts after we recieved the call and for the whole duration of the waiting around that followed, we did not assume the worst, we were given the impression from the call that the worst, was indeed happening. We do not find this acceptable and would like some kind of explanation, and would also like to know that if we had not made our way to the hospital and confronted the situation head on, would we still be waiting for our call.

I am so sorry to read of your recent experience and can understand how anxious you must have been. I would like to be able to investigate further and find out how we can improve communications between the 111 service and DCH. I would be really grateful if you could contact our PALS service on 0800 7838058 or pals@dchft.nhs.uk and we will do our very best to resolve the problems you encountered. Kind regards, Alison Tong, Director of Nursing, Dorset County Hospital
