"Understaffing is an issue"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / General medicine

(as a parent/guardian),

I cannot praise the nurses enough at this Hospital. They work their socks off and always try to have a smile on their faces. However understaffing is a huge issue on the wards.

I feel 2 nurses to 38 patients is absolutely disgraceful. Don't get me wrong I am not blaming the nurses as they do their very best. I blame the big wigs/management.

My daughter was extremely ill for the eight days she was there and on average each time she pressed her emergency button it took half an hour for anyone to come and see her, It didn't help that she was isolated in a room on her own.

On one occasion she was so distressed that she had been pressing her button without response we actually had to ring the ward to get her the attention she needed. She felt very unsafe and frightened that there was no one there to care for her.

She is only 19 and this experience was made worse by the fact she was on her own in an emergency. Half an hour to get help is dangerous and totally wrong. Something needs to be done and fast as patients are not getting the correct care.
