"My unexpected stay on I.C.U at Medway Hospital"

one Morning in June 2013 I awoke having had a bad night with a chest infection I had been battling with antibiotics for about 2 weeks, but this particular morning I was having trouble breathing an ambulance was called and I was taken to Medway Hospital when I arrived I was unconscious and in a critical way, so I was admitted into I. C. U. and was put on a ventilator and into a induced Coma ( suspected Pulmonary Embolism ).

After 5 days they woke me up from the Coma and I was given a Tracheostomy to assist me with my breathing. As you can imagine I was so confused and scared as I could not understand what had happened to me, the Hospital was excellent they had kept a diary for me so that I could read it and catch up once I was able to concentrate and read it.

I remembered that I had a nurse 24hrs a day in my room and there was always someone there to comfort me and most importantly my family informing them of what was my progression step by step as I could not speak and was very sleepy, I remembered how the staff were always so professional at all times I believe at some stages they were so short staffed they would do double shifts, to me they seemed they were always there and never went home.

I owe my life to the Doctors and nurses at Medway Hospital, regrettably I had two more incidents of intensive care in December 2013 of which I was in Hospital over Christmas ( Type 2 Respiratory failure ) again the treatment I received was with compassion, dedication and professionalism.

On the 21/12/2014 I will be a year free of admission to Hospital and am now correctly prescribed medication and a breathing machine at home I still see my Critical Care Nurse Catherine Plowright to this day and she still continues to offer her support.
