On December 1st I attended the day surgery unit in DRI. I arrived at 7.30 am and was dealt with professionally and quickly by the member of staff on reception there. I was then seen by the surgeon who was going to carry out the operation, who was clear, concise, professional and explained what they would be doing/investigating in detail. I then spoke to the anaethetist who also explained their role in my operation and put me at ease regarding the general anesthesia I was to have. I was then seen by a nurse who again checked my details and did a glucose check and blood pressure. The nurse went through with me what I was having the operation for and answered the questions I had. I had to wait till 11.30am before I went through to theater but didn't mind that as the room was pleasant and the staff were very attentive should anyone require anything. I was shown into the changing area by a very nice nurse who also made me feel at ease, and also explained briefly what would happen and told me to ask if I had any questions. When I went into surgery the anaesthetist explained everything they were doing and a very nice nurse came out if theatre to introduce them self and tell me they would be taking very good care of me while the operation was being carried out. This again put me at ease. After approximately 40 minutes I was on the recovery ward and the nurse who had taken me to theatre was there to see if I was ok and ask if there was anything I wanted. While on the ward I was looked after by a nurse who was extremely pleasant and professional, and made sure everyone was ok and ensured all were in a happy mood!!! When I was ok to leave the nurse escorted me out of the nearest exit where my son was waiting to take me home. I would also like to thank the nurse who did my pre-op assessment a few days before. They were one of the most genuine people I have met and loved their job did, and it showed!!! This is the second time I have had to have surgery at DRI the last being 9 years ago. I can honestly say that the service I received was first class on both occasions. The staff involved were very professional and above all caring!!! DRI is a brilliant example of why the NHS is number one and why we should continue to support it.
