"Nothing's broken at the fracture clinic and A&E..."

About: Torbay Hospital

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to hospital staff for the treatment I received following a rupture to my Achilles’ tendon. Our initial concerns about the possibility of a three week wait for an ultrasound scan were dispelled when it became necessary for me to make a second visit to the A&E department to investigate unusually severe discomfort inside the initial plaster cast. Thanks to the skilled attention of a senior (male) nurse, whose name I failed to note, I was fortunate to be given a scan at that visit, with helpful support from an attending consultant and the kind cooperation of the man who undertook the scan. That resulted in my being seen by a very helpful and clear orthopaedic consultant and his equally helpful assistant just a few days later, at the fracture clinic. Over the following nine weeks I received what can only be described as first class treatment from the team at the fracture clinic. Approachable, efficient, skilled, knowledgeable and above all, in our view, friendly and relationally able I cannot praise highly enough everyone who gave us their expert attention, be they administrative and reception staff, nurses, orthopaedic practitioners or physiotherapists. Each and everyone offered a high standard of care in a clean and pleasant environment, so thanks too to the staff that contributed in those less obvious but equally important ways. We were unable to note the names of everyone who helped but would like to offer particular thanks to the Staff nurse and Orthopaedic Practitioners – with special thanks for the glitter and great colour schemes. (Your inspired suggestion to go for a pink plaster in October helped to raise £337 for the charity Breast Cancer Care). Political football you may be and under-resourced you undoubtedly are but you are doing a great job folks, against the odds. Long may that last.
