"Misled"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

My daughter was brought in following an attempted suicide. We asked the nurse for details, she said she could only give it to my daughter in law. We were misled. It was social services who wanted my daughter in laws number. They just rang to ask if my grandson was there not giving any other details. Please nurses dont lie to relatives they have to pick up the pieces

Dear Sir/Madam I am very sorry that you have felt misled by a member of the team in A&E. I can only imagine how distressing it must have been for you to come into hospital in these circumstances. We know that securing the trust of patients and families is at the heart of high quality care, so we don’t ever want people to feel lied to. We also know that some of this trust is protected by fundamental principles of confidentiality. If I’m honest without any more details, it is quite difficult for me to understand what actually happened that night. I am also unable to provide you with more specific feedback because your post is anonymous. I would be very grateful if you could contact me at annie.laverty@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk With best wishes and thanks, Annie
