"I had a stroke"

About: Northern General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

On the 21/04/09 I was taken by ambulance to Northern General Hospital at about 6.30pm having had a stroke. I was given a bed on the assessment ward by midnight. Up until that point I was placed on a bed in a hallway. During this period I was seen by a doctor and fully examined by x-ray and scan. Once in the assessment ward I was seen by a doctor who carried out further examinations of the situation. The next day I was seen by a consultant in the morning and then was allowed some food. The day after that I was taken for further scans on the stomach and sides. The results of the tests showed a recognised improvement and it was felt that there was no need to be admitted into the stroke unit and that discharge would take place on Friday following an improved prescription to accommodate the fact a small stroke had taken place and a further review would be taken. I then had an appointment on the 06/05/09 with the GP who was aware of the situation.
